ramping up for 2026
I’ve made some changes to the website in preparation for the future.
the first thing you may notice is that there is now a /store/. this was free to set up, so i just did it. i’ve made it so that basically no matter what size print gets bought, i make about $10. i don’t expect to ever sell anything, but it was free to set up, so why not?
i’ve also added a /contact/ page.
as you might expect, i am going to do another month in japan in 2026, around the same time. march 28th to april 25th. flight is already booked, but literally nothing else is.
i’ve got a new camera way in advance this time, because i plan to actually keep this one. for those who don’t know, for the past 2 japan trips i have bought a camera shortly before the trip, used it a ton for that month long journey, then sold it all back to the company i bought it from. i’ve discovered through these trips that i really love photography, so this time i decided to get something much nicer and actually keep the gear. i may not keep both the lenses i bought, but i probably will.
for the approximately 0 people who care about the gear i got, i went with:
camera - sony a7cr. this is basically a massively upgraded version of the camera i used last time. same size, but its 61 megapixels instead of 24.
lens 1 - sony 35mm f/1.4 gm
lens 2 - tamron 50-300 f/4.5-6.3
the lenses are the exact same ones i used last trip, and i really love both of them. i actually tried to get a different zoom lens. i originally got a tamron 70-180 f/2.4, reasoning that i the 61 megapixels on the camera would allow me to crop photos way more aggressively, and i may not need the full 300mm of zoom. but after getting the lens and trying it out, i realized that composition is much harder when you are trying to guess what the crop is going to be. it was a much much more expensive and much nicer lens, but i really wanted the 300mm length. so i returned it and got the lens i already know and love instead.
not much else to really post about right now. and i have email notifications turned off at the moment, so i really doubt anyone is going to see this in the first place. i went to balboa park the other night and got a few photos to break the camera in, may as well post em.
